“Immense Mode”

Approximate Size: Two legs, each measuring approximately 20’ x 12’ x 4’.
Approximate Weight: 42,000 lbs total with each leg weighing approximately 21,000lbs.
The idea of the set of striped stalking legs and leather shoes came up when we were discussing what happens in this area and who rides the LRT (Light Rail Transit). We realized that even though this is a busy shopping mall area, it is also a place where individuals will be commuting to and from work, or perhaps direct to the University of Alberta. The thought of standing around waiting for the LRT or a friend triggered the act of standing and waiting. Our proposal of these immense shoes is meant to stand up independently as a monumental presence to the busyness of the area and give those who are waiting a real eyeful of fun. We then thought about Edmontonians and how “fashion” plays a part in almost everyone’s lives in this diverse group of dressers. The striped socks are playful; yet speak about industry and the metamorphosis of our new urban developments and newcomers to the area.
This sculpture will engage viewers and demand interaction as people pass by or look on from a distance. The audience is not just people on the transit island but also those waiting for the LRT, drivers passing by or picking up passengers from the station. This sculpture will be seen from all areas of the station and will act as a greeter with it’s whimsical funky style, leaving the viewer smiling and becoming a notable landmark in the memories of many.
